WHAT IS FOREST BATHING?

Forest bathing is the practice of being intentional and mindful in nature. The practice starts with a sensory awareness meditation, led by a certified guide. The meditation allows participants to transition from a cognitive, head-space to a sensory, heart-space. Next, the guide offers 3 invitations to the participants and gives 10 minutes to explore the environment through the lens of that invitation. An example of an invitation is “I invite you to take the next 10 minutes to wander out and notice all the sounds of the forest. I wonder if one, in particular, speaks to you.”

After each invitation, the guide calls participants back and gives an opportunity to share what was observed, felt or learned. The practice of forest bathing is very slow and meditative. Participants can walk as far or as little as they would like, with average walk distances between 0.5-1 mile in length. Walks can be tailored to a particular celebration, a season/transition of seasons, or group goals.
